Manchester United could revive their interest in Rico Henry next year as Brentford are set to demand more than £35 million for the left-back.

According to Football Insider, Manchester United could revisit their interest in Rico Henry when the transfer window reopens next year. The Brentford full-back could cost over £35 million, and the London club will not stand in the way if he wished to depart.

Manchester United made a late dash to sign a new left-back before the summer window shut after the serious injury to Luke Shaw. The Red Devils also had Tyrell Malacia injured, and with both their left backs unavailable, Erik ten Hag wanted a new addition in the position.

Chelsea’s Marc Cucurella emerged as their primary target, with Manchester United almost agreeing a loan move for the Spaniard. The move eventually collapsed following disagreements between the two clubs over a ‘break clause’ that the Red Devils wanted to include in the contract.

The stipulation would have allowed Manchester United to cancel the loan deal in January, which Chelsea disapproved. Tottenham agreed on those terms and allowed Sergio Reguilon to join the Red Devils on loan, with the Spaniard hoping to feature consistently over the next many games.

The ‘break clause’ allows Manchester United to release Reguilon in the January window and potentially pursue another left-back. Before they decided to sign the Tottenham star, Brentford’s Rico Henry was their choice after Cucurella.

Brentford seemed uninterested in allowing Henry to depart cheaply and wanted a big selling fee. Manchester United did not have the money to fund a permanent move for the Premier League full-back then, but they could revisit their interest in January.

Brentford will likely ask for a £35 million-plus fee to sell the left back. They will not attempt to block any move if Henry wishes to go. Considering that price tag, any transfer will depend on Manchester United’s ability to bring in funds.

If they revive the interest in the £35 million-plus-rated full-back, it could spell the end for Reguilon in January. Alternatively, they could wait until the summer to end the current loan deal for the Spaniard and then target the Brentford star.
