Chelsea and Manchester City reportedly approached Newcastle United for Bruno Guimaraes, who will soon sign a new contract.

A report from 90min claims that Chelsea and Manchester City were keen on signing Bruno Guimaraes, and they made enquiries for him as well. However, Newcastle United were not keen on selling the player, and they decided to snub any approach for their star player.

Bruno Guimaraes has been a key player for Newcastle United since his move to the Premier League club, and he has established himself as one of the best midfielders in the league. It is hardly a surprise that the top clubs like Chelsea and Manchester City were looking to sign him.

Chelsea needed to bring in replacements for players like Mateo Kovacic and N’Golo Kante. And Guimaraes would have been an exceptional acquisition for them. Similarly, Manchester City parted ways with Ilkay Gundogan earlier this summer, and the Brazilian would have been a quality alternative.

The 25-year-old has shown that he has the quality to play at the highest level and the opportunity to play for clubs like Chelsea and Manchester City could have been exciting for the player. However, Newcastle are unlikely to let him leave anytime soon.

They are hoping to put together a formidable squad capable of winning major trophies and need to hold on to their best players in order for that to happen. Recent reports have claimed that the Brazilian international should soon sign a new contract at St. James’ Park.

Guimaraes is an exceptional player who is only going to get better with experience. He is only 25 and he has all the attributes to develop into a world-class footballer. Newcastle will be hoping that he can help them compete for major trophies in the coming season. He was crucial to Newcastle’s Champions League qualification last season.

The midfielder is in the peak of his career right now, and Newcastle will hope to hold on to him for his best years.
