Liverpool could battle it out with Real Madrid for the services of the 24-year-old Paris Saint-Germain forward Kylian Mbappe.
According to a report by L’Equipe, Liverpool are in contention for the signatures of Kylian Mbappe. The Merseyside club have been long-term admirers of the French international, and they could place an offer to land the 24-year-old Real Madrid target at the club.
Mbappe came through the ranks at AS Monaco before joining PSG in the summer of 2017 on a season-long loan. The loan move had an option to buy which was triggered by the French club in 2018. The 24-year-old has gone from strength to strength with each passing season. Currently, he is amongst the best forwards in world football. And, there is a lot of interest in his services.
While quite a few clubs would love to have him in their ranks, Real Madrid is the most likely destination for the French World Cup winner. But, according to the report by L’Equipe, even Liverpool have a chance to acquire his services.
Mbappe’s dream is to play for Real Madrid, and even the Spanish club are keen on having him in their ranks. He was expected to join Los Blancos back in the summer of 2022 as a free agent. But, the 24-year-old ended up extending his stay.
He signed a two-year deal with an option to extend it by another 12 months. Earlier in the transfer window, Mbappe sent a letter to the board and made it clear that he won’t extend his contract by 12 months which means he will be a free agent in the summer of 2024.
PSG did not want to lose out on him for free. As a result, they decided to ban him from first-team training. However, after constructive talks between the club and the player, he is back in training.
But, with his contract running out in less than 12 months, his future is still uncertain. Real Madrid are expected to push for his services next summer. But, they will most likely face competition from Liverpool.
The Merseyside club are long-term admirers and the fact that he will be available for free will make it easier for them to afford his services. Meanwhile, even the 24-year-old World Cup winner is a fan of Jurgen Klopp and if he feels the project is the right one, he could end up joining them. However, the most likely destination at this point in time is Madrid.
