Tottenham are about to plot a late move for Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher, with a move still possible.

According to Matt Law of The Telegraph, Tottenham could lodge a late bid for Conor Gallager. If that happens, the two London rivals could engage in talks, which is rare, as the Blues may consider a massive offer after signing Cole Palmer.

Tottenham could make two statement signings at the very end of the transfer window. The north Londoners are focused on outgoings, but if they manage to clear out some of their unwanted stars, a move for two stars could become possible.

One is Brennan Johnson, with Spurs in direct talks with Nottingham Forest to make a move. The Tricky Trees had previously rejected a £40 million-plus bid from Brentford and may ask interested teams to cough up at least £50 million for the Welshman. With the forward keen to join Tottenham, a move could materialise.

Similarly, they are now vying for Conor Gallagher, with the 23-year-old coming under pressure after Chelsea’s recent agreement to sign Cole Palmer from Manchester City. The attacker’s arrival, who will play on the flanks or in the No.10 role, will directly threaten Gallagher’s involvement.

Hence, if the 23-year-old seeks regular game time, a move away will suit his cause. Tottenham are planning on making a bid to entice the rival midfielder, who had rejected the idea in the recent past. Spurs might see him as a squad replacement for Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, who remains linked with Atletico Madrid.

Gallager will bring a different dynamism to the Tottenham midfield, which could enhance Ange Postecoglou’s ideas. Chelsea had also rejected a £40 million bid from West Ham earlier in the window, but the £50 million offer could tempt them.

Moreover, the outlay on Palmer will need regulation, as Chelsea could recoup a similar fee with the sale of academy star Gallagher. A deal between the two clubs is a rare occurrence, but it’s possible with the Blues openly negotiating with rivals in recent windows.

Any decision will have to come from Gallagher on whether he would like to stay or move. A sale would prove beneficial for Chelsea, and Tottenham could strengthen their side by using a player from a direct rival.

As easy as the deal sounds on paper, it’s a tricky proposition in practice. Gallagher could get far more regular game time than at Chelsea following the club’s massive outlay on new midfielders like Romeo Lavia and Moises Caicedo.
