Davinson Sanchez has been linked with a move away from Tottenham Hotspur this summer, with Ligue 1 club Rennes keen.

Davinson Sanchez has not been able to live up to the expectations since his big-money move from Ajax, and his defensive performances have been rather erratic. As per L’Equipe, Ligue 1 outfit Rennes are now looking to sign the Tottenham defender and they have offered €12 million for the defender.

It will be interesting to see if Tottenham are willing to accept the improved offer from Stade Rennais and let the player leave before the transfer window closes. The Ligue 1 club have already had a bid turned down by Spurs for the Colombian international.

Sanchez was heavily criticised for his error-prone performances last season, and it is clear that he is not a key member of Ange Postecoglou’s first-team squad. It makes sense for Tottenham to cut their losses on him and let the player leave.

They have already signed Ashley Philips and Micky van de Ven earlier this summer. And Tottenham have been linked with players like Perr Schuurs and Tosin Adarabioyo as well. It will be interesting to see if Spurs decide to bring in a central defender on deadline day.

There is no doubt that Sanchez has the quality to develop into a quality defender, and a fresh start at Rennes could be ideal for him. The 27-year-old needs to play regularly at this stage of his career, and he is unlikely to get those opportunities at Tottenham. A move away seems ideal for all parties. But it will be interesting to see how the situation develops.

The reported €12 million offer is unlikely to satisfy Tottenham, who paid a lot more for the player a few years ago. However, the Colombian defender does not have a lot of suitors, and Tottenham might have to accept a substantial loss on the player.

Sanchez is not the only Tottenham defender linked with a move away from the club today. Japhet Tanganga and Eric Dier could complete deadline day moves away from the club as well. As for Sanchez, he is only 27 and will have plenty of time to get his career back on track and regain his form in the coming months.
