Mauricio Pochettino’s Chelsea have managed to acquire the services of 21-year-old Manchester City sensation Cole Palmer.

Chelsea have officially announced the signing of Cole Palmer from Manchester City. The 21-year-old attacking sensation has joined the Blues on a long-term contract, and he will be joining their squad ahead of their fixture against Nottingham Forest. The West Londoners have paid an initial £40 million to sign him from Manchester City.

Palmer’s future was uncertain over the past few weeks. The 21-year-old was linked with a move away from Manchester City. And finally, he has parted ways with the club that he joined back in 2009 in an initial £40 million deal.

The England youth international went up the ranks at the club and managed to make it into their first team back in the summer of 2021. Post his promotion to the first team, the 21-year-old has been given a few opportunities to feature in the first team every now and then. But, he has not really had an extended run.

Last season, Palmer was involved in a total of 25 matches. But he was on the pitch for less than 900 minutes. He did not get enough opportunities to leave a mark. While he did feature in three matches for Manchester City in the new season and even scored two goals, the 21-year-old was unlikely to have the desired number of minutes under Pep Guardiola.

Manchester City have some world-class forwards and despite his versatility, Palmer was unlikely to be preferred ahead of them. As a result, the Englishman started considering his future, and there were quite a few clubs from across Europe that wanted to land him at the club. Chelsea were one of the clubs who wanted to sign the 21-year-old.

The Blues have been looking to add young players with huge potential over the past few transfer window, and Palmer fits the bill. The London club were in talks with City over a potential transfer and they have managed to strike a deal worth £40 million plus add-ons. The player has expressed his delight at completing a move.

He said, “I’m excited to get started and it feels great to sign. I’ve joined Chelsea because the project here sounds good and because of the platform I will have to try to showcase my talents. It is a young and hungry squad and, hopefully, we can do something special here.”

The 21-year-old has signed a seven-year-long contract with an option to extend it by another 12 months. The official announcement of the transfer has arrived, and the Manchester City youth product will now be seen in Chelsea’s Blue during the 2023/24 season.
