Mamadou Fall is set to join Barcelona from MLS club LAFC in a loan deal with a purchase option worth $7 million on Deadline Day.

According to Tom Bogert of The Athletic, Mamadou Fall will be one of the last signings of the summer transfer window for Barcelona. The Catalan giants have an agreement with Major League Soccer club LAFC over a loan deal. And the Blaugrana will have a purchase option worth $7 million.

Mamadou Fall is a native of Rufisque in Senegal but rose to prominence when he joined the Montverde Academy as part of Sport4Charity, an organisation run by former Senegal international footballer Salif Diao. And after some time, he moved to Los Angeles FC in June 2021.

But the highly-rated 20-year-old defender is yet to establish a foothold in the LAFC first team. And he has embarked on two loan spells after from the MLS club, garnering experience in Spain during his stint with Villarreal last season. Now back at LAFC, he has turned out once in the MLS this term. But Fall will soon return to Spain.

Reports this week suggested Barcelona wanted to secure Fall’s services before the end of the summer transfer window. And the Blaugrana soon advanced talks to sign the Senegalese centre-back. It now seems they have an agreement with LAFC over a possible loan deal for the youngster.

The report claims Fall will join Barcelona on loan for the remainder of the 2023/24 season. In addition, the Blaugrana will have a purchase option worth around $7 million, including add-ons. The two clubs will finalise the deal ahead of Friday night’s summer transfer deadline.

Meanwhile, Villarreal also wanted to secure Fall’s services, only to lose to Barcelona. The highly-rated 20-year-old centre-back will join Barcelona Atletic upon moving to the Catalan club. So he will become the second Los Angeles-based player to join the Blaugrana this year after Julian Araujo.

Fall might not be the only player joining Barcelona B today, with the Catalan giants also keen on signing Petterson Novaes. It will be interesting to see how many players arrive at the club before the summer transfer window shuts down.
