Chelsea are contemplating a late move for banned Brentford striker Ivan Toney, with the Bees set to demand at least £80 million.

The Independent has claimed that Chelsea might contemplate a late move for Ivan Toney despite his ban from football. The Brentford striker will return in January. But the Blues are among the sides keen to wrap up a deal before the summer deadline for the £80 million-rated English international.

Considering how well they have started their season, Brentford have not missed Ivan Toney. The England international cannot play until mid-January owing to a ban for betting breaches. He will return to the field next year. But clubs are already making a move for the striker.

With two days left in the summer transfer window, many sides have expressed interest in signing the £80 million-rated English international. Brentford have no intention of letting him go on the cheap and will demand significantly for the striker.

Chelsea are among those keen. And now, as per the report, the West London club could contemplate an eleventh-hour move for Toney. The Blues are seriously considering an attacking talent so late in the window, owing to many links in the market.

As per the latest update, they bid for Manchester City’s Cole Palmer. And on Tuesday, they set sights on Arsenal’s Emile Smith Rowe. Moreover, Chelsea have offloaded Romelu Lukaku to AS Roma, thus leaving space for another striker in the squad, which Toney might take up.

Manchester United were also interested in Toney and might make a move if they can do the deal. As things stand, there is plenty of chatter about the Red Devils and FFP, meaning they are not in a position to pay Brentford’s £80 million asking price.

Toney might say yes to a significant move away from Brentford, as the Bees might consider a big offer as they do not rely on him at the start of the season. Chelsea could become a realistic option, and they might have the funds to carry out another big operation before the window shuts.

Whether it is realistically possible in the next two days remains the question. But they might contemplate a move in January. Then, Toney will have 18 months left on his Brentford contract, thus making the conditions more favourable for the Blues.
