Nottingham Forest may consider selling Brennan Johnson before the transfer deadline to meet FFP regulations.

According to Football Insider, Nottingham Forest could be forced to sell Brennan Johnson amid concerns with FFP. The club’s splurge on players last summer may have caught up with them, and they may have to sell their £40 million-rated attacking talent.

Nottingham Forest have held firm with their stance over Brennan Johnson, as several clubs have enquired about the attacker. Steve Cooper considers the forward a key member of their his and will want to keep him at least for another season.

With his homegrown status a bonus for Forest, they might have to sell him to keep up with Financial Fair Play. The Premier League side may see a sizeable sale of the forward as a way to balance their books, and while it will prove difficult to replace him so late in the window.

Chelsea had considered a move for the forward, but Forest’s conditions for the deal may prove a stumbling block. The Blues are also on the FFP watchlist and may have to spend more money on new players. They might still pay what’s necessary if they feel Johnson will improve their squad.

Tottenham are the front runners for Johnson, and the player reportedly wants to join them if an offer comes by. Spurs need a new forward after the departure of Harry Kane to Bayern Munich. Johnson’s quality in the final third will make him an exciting option, but dealing with Forest could prove complicated.

Tottenham do not have other great targets in their sights and might make a late push to bring the 22-year-old to north London. Forest will demand significantly, with previous reports stating they could ask for over £50 million for their star man.

However, if the FFP pressure mounts up, they could take a considerable hit on their asking price but still seek at least £40 million or more for the attacker. Tottenham will keep their eyes open, and so will Chelsea, with both London sides in the hunt for a new forward.

Signing Johnson will elevate Tottenham’s squad quality, especially in the attack, as they lack another striker apart from Richarlison. Whether this transfer materialises remains the question, but it’s still a big possibility if Forest’s FFP problems are accurate.
