Jose Mourinho’s AS Roma are pushing hard for the signatures of the 30-year-old Chelsea striker Romelu Lukaku.

According to Fabrizio Romano, AS Roma are keen on having Romelu Lukaku in their ranks before the end of the transfer window. The Italian giants are looking to further bolster their attack, and they are going after the signatures of the 30-year-old Belgian international who is looking for a way out of Chelsea.

Lukaku had an impressive stint at Inter Milan back in the day. And, on the back of his heroics for the Italian club, Chelsea decided to re-sign him in a big-money move. But, things did not go according to plan as Lukaku failed to fire.

After a disappointing 2021/22 season, he was sent back on loan to Inter. The Belgian international had a decent loan spell at his former club as he managed to score 14 goals and bagged seven assists in his 37 outings.

He was used as a substitute in the majority of the matches and racked up just under 2,000 minutes. Despite limited game time, he managed to impress the people at the club and they wanted to sign him on a permanent basis.

While Inter were making moves to land him at the club, Lukaku started negotiating with rivals Juventus who were also keen on his services. As soon as Inter learned about it, they dropped the idea of signing him and shifted their focus elsewhere.

Post that, there have not been many takers for the 30-year-old. And, Chelsea were even considering convincing him about a move to the Middle East. But, of late AS Roma have expressed a lot of interest in his services.

Jose Mourinho wants someone with a bit more physical presence in attack and an eye for goal. Lukaku seems to be a perfect fit, and his arrival will make them a lot more threatening going forward.

The Italian club have been in talks with Chelsea for a while now. And, after the end of the initial round of talks, Roma have submitted an official bid for his services. They have put forward a season-long loan offer with a significant loan fee.

Salary coverage is yet to be discussed but if things go according to plan Lukaku could soon be seen in the colours of Roma. Presidents of both clubs are involved in discussions and we should soon have an update on the situation.
