La Liga club Girona might look to sign Spanish international defender Eric Garcia from Barcelona in the ongoing transfer window.

According to Nil Sola, Eric Garcia is the subject of interest from Girona over a late move in the ongoing transfer window. The 22-year-old has lost prominence in the Barcelona first-team squad. And the reigning La Liga champions might entertain offers for him this summer.

Eric Garcia spent most of his formative years with Barcelona after joining the Catalan club as a seven-year-old in 2008. But he ended his youth career at Manchester City after leaving Barcelona as a 16-year-old in July 2017. After moving to Manchester City, he rapidly rose through the ranks before making his first-team debut.

The 22-year-old featured fairly regularly for Manchester City in the 2020/21 season. But he got the urge to return to Barcelona and decided to run down his contract in July 2021. And so, the Spanish international rejoined the Blaugrana in a Bosman move two years ago, hoping to become a long-term central defensive solution at Camp Nou.

But Garcia has blown hot and cold at the Catalan club in the last two seasons. He has failed to establish a foothold in the defensive unit, with the arrival of Andreas Christensen and Jules Kounde deterring him from becoming the first-choice centre-back. And following Inigo Martinez’s Bosman move this summer, he is at the bottom of the pecking order for central defenders at FC Barcelona.

So the Spaniard, who has turned out 69 times thus far for Barcelona, faces an uncertain future at the club. And despite rumours earlier this year suggesting the Blaugrana did not want to part ways with him, a summer departure might be on the cards. He has now emerged as a target for Girona.

The White and Reds have established a foothold in La Liga after a solid 2022/23 campaign. But they want to bolster their squad further before the summer transfer window shuts down. And Eric Garcia, despite his struggles for Barcelona, can be an excellent asset for Girona in the new season.

It is unclear if Barcelona will look for a replacement before selling Garcia in the coming days. But it will be interesting to see if Girona can convince the 22-year-old Spanish international to swap Barcelona for another Catalan club in La Liga.
