Chelsea recently approached Portimonense over a possible summer deal for 23-year-old Portuguese defender Filipe Relvas.

According to a report by French outlet Foot Mercato, Filipe Relvas is the subject of interest from Chelsea. The Blues have already submitted an enquiry for the 23-year-old versatile defender. And the Portimonense man will cost less than €10 million in the ongoing transfer window.

Filipe Relvas is an unknown commodity outside Portugal, where he is not a household name either. The Portuguese defender spent his formative years with CD Feirense and SC Espinho, graduating from the latter’s youth division. And after short spells at Gondomar SC and FC Pedras Rubras, he finally found stability at Portimonense.

The 23-year-old took some time to get going at Estadio Municipal de Portimao but has been a regular in the last two seasons. Relvas has turned out 69 times thus far for Portimonense, chipping in with three assists. And the player’s progress has captured the attention of several high-profile clubs, including Chelsea.

The Blues have a stacked squad, with Todd Boehly and his consortium spending an eye-watering sum of money since taking over the club. But injuries have engulfed the Chelsea squad, with three centre-backs also on the sidelines. And with Wesley Fofana likely missing most of the 2023/24 campaign, Chelsea can do with a centre-back.

Filipe Relvas is thus a viable target for the West London club. And considering he can play as a left-back, the Portuguese defender is an attractive prospect for Chelsea. So, he can also be a backup option for Ben Chilwell and Ian Maatsen. Meanwhile, the Blues have already submitted an enquiry for the player.

The report claims that AS Monaco, Benfica, Besiktas, and VfL Wolfsburg are also keen on signing the 23-year-old. Meanwhile, Portimonense will demand less than €10 million to part ways with Relvas, making him a cost-effective option for Chelsea and other suitors.

But AS Monaco will primarily target Tosin Adarabioyo, who also features on Tottenham Hotspur’s radar. Meanwhile, it will be interesting to see if Chelsea can beat AS Monaco and the other suitors to the 23-year-old Portuguese defender before the summer transfer window shuts down.
