Newcastle United might launch a late move to sign 28-year-old Mexican attacker Hirving Lozano from Serie A champions Napoli.

According to a report by Italian outlet Spazio Napoli, Hirving Lozano is the subject of interest from Newcastle United. The Magpies are considering a late move to bolster their offensive unit in the ongoing transfer window. And the Napoli forward has emerged as a viable target for the Tyneside outfit.

Hirving Lozano has made gradual progress since joining Napoli from PSV Eindhoven in August 2019. The Mexican international arrived at the Serie A club following two years in the Netherlands. But he has not set the stage alight at the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium in the last four seasons.

But the 28-year-old featured every now and then as Napoli won the Serie A title last season. Meanwhile, he seemingly does not feature in Rudi Garcia’s plans, after not managing a single minute in the season opener. However, Lozano’s stock remains high, with Newcastle United among his prospective suitors.

The Magpies have been clever in the transfer market, only making essential signings thus far. But with Newcastle United yet to sign an offensive player, they might enter the market for a wide attacker. And recent reports have linked them with Federico Chiesa, who has his heart set on joining Liverpool.

But with Chiesa unlikely to arrive at St. James’ Park, Newcastle United should identify alternatives. And Hirving Lozano has seemingly popped up on the Tyneside club’s radar over a possible summer move. The 28-year-old might not have been too productive since joining Napoli.

But he will bring a champion’s mentality to the Tyneside outfit after winning the Serie A title last season. And the Mexican international will likely compete with Miguel Almiron on the right flank, with Harvey Barnes and Anthony Gordon vying for the left-wing berth. Meanwhile, Newcastle United might not be the only Premier League club showing interest in Lozano.

Recent reports have linked the player with Aston Villa. But considering Newcastle United can offer UEFA Champions League football to the 28-year-old Serie A winner, they should be the front-runners to secure his services in the ongoing transfer window. And it will be interesting to see if he arrives at St. James’ Park in the coming days.
