Manchester City are preparing a second bid to sign 24-year-old Wolverhampton Wanderers midfielder Matheus Nunes.

According to a report by 90min, Manchester City are keen on having Matheus Nunes in their ranks. They are looking to sign a world-class midfielder before the end of the transfer window and have their eyes set on the 24-year-old Wolverhampton Wanderers star. But they have had a £47 million bid rejected, with Wolves holding out for £60 million.

Manchester City have suffered a few blows of late. At the very start of the season, Kevin De Bruyne suffered an injury. The Belgian is amongst their most important players. And with the talismanic playmaker out for almost four months, they started looking for a new midfielder.

Pep Guardiola’s team identified Lucas Paqueta as a potential target. Manchester City started talks with West Ham over a potential deal. The talks were progressing nicely and there was a real possibility of him moving to the Etihad. But, the move has collapsed, and an FA-led enquiry into betting breaches by the player might be the reason.

With Paqueta no longer in the picture, City started pushing for the services of Matheus Nunes. Pep Guardiola is a huge admirer of the 24-year-old and has talked highly about the Portuguese international back in the day. The Spanish manager to love to have him in his ranks.

As a result, they submitted an initial offer of £47 million for the Wolves midfielder. But, the bid has been turned down by Wolves, who value him at around £60 million. Despite the rejection, Manchester City are expected to once again push for the Portugal international with the deadline day closing in.

Nunes joined Wolves from Sporting Lisbon for £42.2 million last summer. He has gone from strength to strength since making the move to England. He already has the experience of playing in the English top flight and would easily fit into the Manchester City system.

While the treble winners are keen on having him, Wolves are not looking to offload him in the ongoing window. He is an important part of their plans for the 2023/24 season and want to have him in their ranks. But, according to Daily Telegraph, Manchester City are still willing to try their luck and will put forward an improved offer in the near future to test the resolve of Wolves.
