Chelsea are set to sign Serbian international goalkeeper Djordje Petrovic in a deal worth nearly $20 million.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Chelsea have agreed on a deal worth close to $20 million with New England Revolution for Djordje Petrovic. And the Serbian international is expected to complete his move to the Premier League club this week.

Petrovic will sign a seven-year contract with Chelsea, and the deal will include the option for another year. The 23-year-old will be excited to join one of the biggest clubs in the world. And it remains to be seen whether he can push Robert Sanchez for a starting spot this season.

Chelsea recently signed the former Brighton & Hove Albion keeper after the departure of Edouard Mendy. Since then, the Blues have sanctioned the loan departure of Kepa Arrizabalaga to Real Madrid as well.

Chelsea thus needed to bring in a couple of quality goalkeepers, thus setting their sights on Djordje Petrovic. And the West London club have done the needful with the additions of Sanchez and the impending arrival of Petrovic this summer.

The Serbian international needs to play regularly at this stage of his career, and he will have to work hard in order to break into the starting lineup at Chelsea. If he manages to impress in training, Mauricio Pochettino might be open to giving him opportunities in the Premier League. Other than that, Petrovic should get ample game time in the cup games for Chelsea.

The Blues have been very active in the transfer market this summer, and they have signed a number of quality players. It will be interesting to see whether the Serb manages to adapt to his new surroundings quickly and hits the ground running in the Premier League.

There is no doubt that the 23-year-old is a talented player, and he can be an important member of the first-team squad at Chelsea in the upcoming season.

The opportunity to move to the Premier League can be hard to turn down for any player, and the transfer from New England Revolution to Chelsea will be a major step up in the career of the Serbian goalkeeper. He will look to prove his qualities at the highest level in the coming months.
