Tottenham unwilling to invest heavily in Romelu Lukaku

Tottenham Hotspur are unwilling to break the bank for Chelsea striker Romelu Lukaku

According to Fichajes, Tottenham Hotspur are unwilling to invest heavily in securing the services of Chelsea outcast Romelu Lukaku in the ongoing summer transfer window.

The Belgian ace has been frozen out of the squad at Stamford Bridge and does not appear to have a future at the Bridge. He also sabotaged a potential switch to Inter Milan while Juventus fans are less than thrilled by their club’s interest in the 30-year-old.

Tottenham need a new striker following Harry Kane’s transfer to Bayern Munich earlier this summer. This leaves a major void in the Tottenham roster as far as scoring goals is concerned. While Richarlison can make up the numbers on the team sheet, he will struggle to replicate Kane’s goal-scoring prowess.

With just under two weeks to go before the summer transfer window shuts, Tottenham are facing a race against time to bring in a new striker. Despite being in talks for Lukaku, Levy is not ready to splash the cash without it making sense.

Tottenham have had an excellent window otherwise and have brought in several players. However, despite their need for a goalscorer, the club is keen to find the right balance between recruitment and sound financial commitment.

Lukaku might have flopped at Chelsea but has a proven track record of impressing in the right system. He was a beast at West Bromwich Albion and also did well at Everton, both Premier League clubs indicating he has what it takes to impress in the English top tier.

He also impressed at Inter and was the Serie A MVP when the Nerazzurri won their most recent Scudetto under Antonio Conte in 2021. While his performances have suffered from inconsistency and injuries since he is just 30 and has plenty of years left in him at the top level.

The last time Tottenham sold a major player was when Gareth Bale moved to Real Madrid in 2013. Levy’s summer spree that summer failed to pay dividends, probably setting the club back rather than taking them forward. He will be wise not to repeat the same trick once again.

As long as Tottenham are convinced about Lukaku, they can do everything possible to secure his signature. But with time running out, they will have to get a move on if he is to link up with the squad before the window ends.
