Manchester City ready to pay £10 million to sign Valentin Barco

Manchester City are ready to fork out £10 million to land Boca Juniors star Valentin Barco.

According to The Sun, Premier League champions Manchester City are ready to meet the release clause of Boca Juniors star Valentin Barco in the ongoing summer transfer window.

The 19-year-old spent time at Sportivo Las Parejas and Norberto de la Riestra before moving to Boca Juniors in 2014. He spent a while in the club’s youth ranks before making his first-team bow in 2021. He has since made 20 appearances for the Argentine giants across all competitions, scoring once and assisting twice in the process.

The youngster is one of the finest players of his age group and was among those name-dropped by The Guardian as a potential superstar of the future. Barco certainly is doing justice to those expectations and is now courting interest from both Manchester City and Brighton.

Pep Guardiola’s side has enjoyed a facelift of sorts with several players being moved on. Full-back Joao Cancelo appears to be on his way out, leaving a spot open on the main roster. Despite Rico Lewis proving himself to be a solid alternative, Guardiola will need strength in depth going forward.

Barco appears to be the player chosen, and Manchester City are ready to pay his £10 million release clause. More so, the treble winners are also ready to loan the player back to Boca until January as a sweetener to trump Brighton in the transfer race.

The left-back has a dynamic passing range and has shown himself capable of performing at either end of the pitch. However, he is still young and will benefit from ironing out certain kinks in his armour.

Playing for a manager such as Pep Guardiola will do the young Argentine well and bode right for his development. While Brighton & Hove Albion can offer him a similar platform to aid his development, Manchester City can offer him a spot in one of world football’s best teams.

A dynamic presence on the field, there is every reason to believe Barco can make the step up to European football in the coming years. By acting fast, Manchester City can secure themselves a top-tier talent for a song before more teams get alerted to his abilities.
