Chelsea are reportedly linked with a move for Tammy Abraham again, and this time it’s Romelu Lukaku who could join Roma in a swap deal.
Calcio Mercato Web links Romelu Lukaku to Roma in a potential swap deal involving Tammy Abraham going to Chelsea. The Belgian has struggled to find a new club in the close season, with Chelsea desperate to sell him before the transfer deadline.
Chelsea needs a new striker but also want to offload unwanted star Romelu Lukaku at all costs in this window. The Belgian is no longer welcome at the club. Mauricio Pochettino echoed fan sentiment and kept the forward away from the first-team training group.
After what has transpired since the Belgian returned in a then club-record bid to Chelsea, he has no future at Stamford Bridge. He spent the previous season on loan to former side Inter Milan, but the Italian giants have since left the pursuit of the striker in a rather angry mood.
Inter Milan bowed out because Lukaku held talks with rivals Juventus behind their back. The Belgian has already agreed on personal terms with the Turin side, but their fans have staged a backlash, warning the club against signing the 30-year-old.

There were links to Chelsea sending Lukaku to Juventus in a part exchange deal involving Dusan Vlahovic. However, they have since cooled their interest in the Serbian. So, as things stand, the Belgian does not have too many doors opening for him, with a move to Saudi Arabia still mooted about as a possibility.
Now, Roma are reportedly linked with a move for Lukaku, with the idea of Tammy Abraham returning to Chelsea. The latter joined Jose Mourinho’s side two years ago, and the Blues have an €80 million buy-back clause in his contract.
With Chelsea needing a striker, the Italian outlet have linked them with Abraham. They mention a ‘swap-deal’ involving the 25-year-old striker. Lukaku joining Roma seem plausible due to the presence of Mourinho. However, the pair may not share happy memories during their stint together at Manchester United.
Meanwhile, the term ‘swap deal’ may not resonate well even if this deal was possible, considering Abraham holds a much higher value than Lukaku. The 25-year-old strike is five years younger than the Belgian, and even if the deal materialised, Roma would undoubtedly ask for a sizeable fee in return.
More importantly, Abraham remains sidelined with a severe injury sustained last season and will only return in the new year. Hence, a move back to Chelsea will make little sense. Moreover, the Blues have been missing key attacker Christopher Nkunku for many months.
While a ‘swap deal’ may have some legs to run, there’s no chance Chelsea or Roma will sanction such a deal involving the two strikers. Lukaku does have some pedigree in Italy with his 14-goal season with Inter Milan. As things stand, only Juventus hold concrete interest in the Belgian.
