Chelsea could step up swap deal efforts involving Romelu Lukaku and Dusan Vlahovic

Chelsea and Juventus could enter an important phase in the proposed part-exchange deal involving Dusan Vlahovic and Romel Lukaku.

According to Corriere dello Sport via Sport Witness, Chelsea and Juventus will hold decisive talks to resolve the Dusan Vlahovic-Romelu Lukaku transfer situation. Both clubs are figuring out a solution to payments for the part-exchange deal, with the Blues not paying what the Turin side wants for the Serbian.

Two clubs, Juventus and Chelsea, are unhappy with their expensive strikers and want to rid of them in the current window. On the one hand, we have Dusan Vlahovic, who has had a tumultuous 18 months since signing from Fiorentina, and then there’s the €100 million-plus striker Romelu Lukaku.

Lukaku could have had a peaceful summer had he stuck with his promise of continuing with Inter Milan. The Italian side also made a sizeable bid to sign the 14-goal striker, but he made a U-turn after holding talks with rivals Juventus.

Chelsea does not want him anywhere near the club, and their fans echo that sentiment. They have actively tried to find solutions for the Belgian, who also reportedly rejected overtures from Saudi Arabia. He has already agreed to a contract with Juventus, but any move hinges on Vlahovic’s departure.

For some reason, there’s keen interest from Chelsea in Vlahovic. Given both those profiles, the Serbian is clearly more valuable than the Belgian. There were suggestions of a part-exchange deal between the clubs involving the two strikers, and that idea could materialise.

The only issue is the money on offer from Chelsea. The report insists the Blues have offered around €20 million on top of Lukaku as part of the deal. Juventus are intent on €40 million, but this deal could close about €30-35 million.

It benefits both clubs from many angles, as they can eliminate expensive strikers that are no longer needed. There were suggestions in the Italian media regarding Vlahovic’s fitness problems, but nothing concrete. Chelsea are in the market for a striker but might lock in on the Serbian.

Hence, all that remains is an agreement between the clubs over the valuations, which could hinge on Chelsea’a valuation of Vlahovic. Talks could accelerate in the coming days, indicating an imminent conclusion of this proposed part-exchange transfer.
