Chelsea are finally set to win the race to sign Brighton and Hove Albion midfielder Moises Caicedo, beating Liverpool to his signature.

Moises Caicedo has been heavily linked with Liverpool, who agreed on a deal with Brighton & Hove Albion last week. However, the player has now decided to move to Stamford Bridge and is expected to finalise his move to the London club soon, as per 90min.

Caicedo has established himself as one of the most reliable midfielders in the Premier League, and he should prove to be an outstanding acquisition for the Blues. Chelsea will pay £115 million for the talented young midfielder, and he is set to undergo his medical with the club soon.

He will then sign a contract with Chelsea until the summer of 2031, and the Blues will have an option to extend it for another year. Arsenal paid a British transfer-record fee to sign Declan Rice earlier this summer, and Chelsea have now managed to eclipse that.

The West London club needed to bring in a quality replacement for club legend N’Golo Kante, and Caicedo should prove to be a superb acquisition. He is excellent when it comes to winning the ball back, pressing the opposition and keeping possession.

The 21-year-old has all the attributes to develop into a top-class player, and he could be the ideal partner for Enzo Fernandez at the heart of Chelsea’s midfield. Someone like Mauricio Pochettino could help him improve further in the coming seasons.

The Argentine manager has done well to nurture talented young players throughout his career, and he could get the best out of players like Fernandez and Caicedo. The transfer to Chelsea will certainly come as a blow to Liverpool, and it will be interesting to see if they can bring in a quality alternative.

The Reds were hoping to sign the 21-year-old midfielder in a club-record deal this summer. But despite an agreement between Liverpool and Brighton, the Ecuadorian international had his heart set on joining Chelsea.

Liverpool have recently sold important midfield players like Jordan Henderson and Fabinho. They will have to replace both players adequately and Caicedo would have been a quality replacement for the Brazilian international. The Reds are in desperate need of a defensive midfielder and it will be interesting to see who they end up signing.
