Liverpool could look at Ibrahim Sangare as a contingent option in the window if they fail in Romeo Lavia’s or Moises Caicedo’s pursuits.

ESPN Netherlands have linked Liverpool with a potential move for Ibrahim Sangare. The midfielder was of interest to the Merseysiders earlier, but they have stayed focused on Romeo Lavia and Moises Caicedo since. Yet, if a move for one of the duo fails, the 25-year-old PSV Eindhoven midfielder could become an option.

Sunday’s game between Liverpool and Chelsea showed what happens when neither team fields a defensive midfielder in their lineups. The two clubs are currently embroiled in a two-way battle for Rome Lavia and Moises Caicedo, with the fight set to enter a pivotal phase in the next few days.

While Liverpool only wanted to sign one midfielder and had preferred Romeo Lavia, Chelsea’s entry for the Southampton star complicated matters for both teams. The Reds then made a sensational £111 million bid for Caicedo and agreed on a fee with Brighton.

Meanwhile, Chelsea are looking to pip Liverpool for both Lavia and Caicedo in the coming week. This scenario could become catastrophic for Jurgen Klopp in this window, as he might have to look for a new name in the market.

ESPN Netherlands now link Liverpool with a move for Ibrahim Sangare. The 25-year-old midfield powerhouse from PSV Eindhoven featured on their radar earlier this year, but Klopp had never shown serious intent about signing him.

Yet, he could become a big contingent option in the unfortunate scenario of Liverpool losing out on both Lavia and Caicedo. Klopp surely needs a new defensive midfielder in his ranks, as without one, his team would lack the cutting edge this season.

The report also insists Sangare’s would cost around £37 million. For that price point, Liverpool might see the value in a potential deal for the 25-year-old midfielder. Yet, there are no clear indications that the Merseysiders might seriously consider signing the PSV star anytime soon.

Any move will stay contingent on Liverpool’s ability to sign one of their favoured midfielders in this window. Hence, it’s an intense week ahead for Klopp in their race to sign one of Caicedo or Lavia, and failure to get an agreement could lead them towards Sangare.
