Liverpool have agreed on a deal to sign Moises Caicedo from Brighton and Hove Albion, beating Chelsea to his signature.

According to a report from 90min, Liverpool have secured a British record agreement with Brighton & Hove Albion for Moises Caicedo. The Reds have agreed to pay £111 million to sign the Chelsea target.

Caicedo has been heavily linked with a move to Chelsea recently, and it will be interesting to see if the Reds can win the race for his signature. News emerged on Thursday night that Liverpool had outbid the Blues to land the 21-year-old. And the reports on Friday morning have confirmed the same, coupled with the revelation of a £111 million agreement.

The 21-year-old is one of the finest young midfielders in the Premier League, and he should prove to be a quality acquisition for Liverpool. The Reds will have to replace players like Jordan Henderson and Fabinho this summer. The Ecuador international could prove to be a superb long-term investment.

Caicedo has all the attributes to develop into a world-class player, and joining a big club like Liverpool will only accelerate his development. Furthermore, working under a top-class coach like Jurgen Klopp will help the midfielder improve further.

Chelsea have been trying to sign the player for weeks, and they have had multiple offers rejected for him. Reports even suggested that the youngster was trying to force a move to Chelsea. Meanwhile, it will be interesting to see if Chelsea decide to return with an improved offer at the last minute and hijack Liverpool’s move for the player.

Brighton will hope to finalise the transfer soon and the player will look to sort out his permanent future as well. It will be interesting to see how the situation unfolds. There have been reports that the player could undergo his Liverpool medical later today, and it remains to be seen whether Liverpool can agree personal terms with him first.

Although the Reds have secured an agreement with Brighton, they are yet to agree personal terms with the Ecuadorian international. If Caicedo decides to prefer a move to Chelsea, Liverpool could be forced to walk away from the deal even though they have secured a club record agreement for him.

Meanwhile, Liverpool have already signed Alexis Mac Allister from Brighton earlier this summer, and they will be hoping to reunite the 21-year-old with him. The two players formed a quality partnership at Brighton, and they can have a similar impact at Liverpool if the move goes through.
