Barcelona will not launch the offensive to sign Juan Foyth, with Villarreal adamant that they will only sell him for €54 million.

According to a report by Spanish outlet SPORT, Juan Foyth has been a top target for Barcelona this summer. But he would have only left Villarreal if a suitor triggered his release clause of €54 million. So the Catalan giants have now moved on from pursuing the World Cup winner in the ongoing transfer window.

Juan Foyth has been one of the most solid defenders in La Liga since joining Villarreal nearly three years ago. A versatile defender, the Argentine international can play as a centre-back and a right-back. But he has exclusively played on the right flank for Villarreal, who signed him permanently in July 2021 after a season-loan loan spell in 2020/21.

The 25-year-old has made 100 appearances thus far for the Yellow Submarine, chipping in with three goals and five assists. Foyth was also a part of Argentina’s World Cup-winning squad in Qatar. Meanwhile, the player’s progress has captured the attention of many high-profile clubs, including Barcelona.

The Catalan giants hold a long-standing interest in the World Cup winner. And they have weighed up a move for him in previous transfer windows. But a transfer has never seen the light of day due to a release clause of €54 million in his Villarreal contract. And that continues to be an issue to this day.

Villarreal will not part ways with Foyth unless a suitor triggers the release clause. But with Barcelona not being in a position to splash €54 million on one player, the move will not materialise. So the update comes as a blow for the Argentine defender, who has been pushing to complete the move to the Catalan club this summer.

Meanwhile, Barcelona will continue scouring the market for a right-back. The position has been a problem area for the Blaugrana for several seasons. And the reigning La Liga champions are yet to address the issue in the ongoing transfer window.

But recent reports have heavily linked Barcelona with Joao Cancelo. And the Manchester City full-back will likely become the top target for the Blaugrana after the latest update. As for Foyth, the 25-year-old World Cup winner will likely remain at Villarreal beyond the summer transfer window.
