Real Sociedad are looking to bolster their squad and have their eyes set on 27-year-old Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Giovani Lo Celso.

According to Mundo Deportivo via Sport Witness, Real Sociedad are keen on having Giovani Lo Celso in their ranks before the end of the ongoing transfer window. The 27-year-old’s future at Tottenham Hotspur is uncertain, and he could be on his way to La Liga in the coming weeks.

Lo Celso joined Spurs back in the summer of 2019 from Real Betis. He initially joined them on a season-long loan which was made permanent next summer in a €32 million agreement on the back of his impressive performances.

The Argentine international played an important role in the 2020/21 season, but his game time slowly took a hit. While he was expected to cement a spot in the first team, he has failed to establish himself as a regular and has been out on loan on multiple occasions.

In the winter of 2022, Lo Celso was sent out on a short loan to Villarreal. He managed to impress the Spanish club, and both clubs reached an agreement over another loan move for the 2022/23 season.

He featured in a total of 29 matches and contributed towards five goals despite being on the pitch for just over 1,400 minutes while on loan at Villarreal last season. The 27-year-old midfielder has now returned to his parent club, and he has been actively used by their new manager Ange Postecoglou.

While Real Sociedad are keen on having the Argentine international in their ranks, they have not made any progress because Spurs have not yet decided about their midfielder’s future. Postecoglou will soon make a decision regarding his future and then, Real Sociedad might make a move.

Real Sociedad’s priority throughout the summer has been the signatures of Donny van de Beek. The La Liga side want to sign the Manchester United midfielder on loan with a buy option. But the Red Devils will only let him leave on loan with a mandatory buy clause for next summer.

While Real Sociedad are still in talks with Manchester United, they have started looking for options elsewhere and Lo Celso is a name on their list. Officials from the Spanish club have held a meeting with the player’s father in Valencia as they prepare themselves for a potential deal in the coming days. Meanwhile, La Liga champions Barcelona have also shown interest in the Tottenham midfielder.
