Manchester United’s search for a new centre-back has seen them add Perr Schuurs to the shortlist, with Liverpool also keen on the Dutchman.

According to 90min, Perr Schuurs emerged as a target for Manchester United after the agreement to sell Harry Maguire. Erik ten Hag is considering many options, with the 23-year-old Liverpool defensive target also part of the shortlist.

Manchester United are confident of signing one central defensive signing before the window shuts and have accelerated their efforts after recent developments. Some high-profile players feature on Erik ten Hag’s shortlist of centre-backs, with Perr Schuurs the latest to emerge here.

The proposed sale of Harry Maguire to West Ham United has opened the doors to make a replacement signing with the added funds from the transfer. The Hammers agreed on a £30 million deal, allowing ten Hag market flexibility.

Schuurs would cost around the same figure as the Maguire sale. Torino had previously quoted other Premier League sides of their price range. Liverpool have been among those keen on the 23-year-old defensive target, but nothing concrete so far with Torino.

Jurgen Klopp identified the centre-back as one of his targets to improve the backline. He wanted to bring a reinforcement in the area as they might need more quality. The Liverpool boss will remain focused on signing a midfielder and then move to defensive reinforcements.

Manchester United are now interested in the 23-year-old Dutchman, who ten Hag knows from his time at Ajax. Schuurs has been a good presence for Torino, and his performances had attracted plenty of interest before, notably from Tottenham in this window.

Manchester United are also considering other options and have held concrete talks for Benjamin Pavard. The Frenchman offers versatility currently missing from a right-sided centre-back, which makes the Bayern man a stellar candidate.

Schuurs could only play centrally, which may become a problem for Ten Hag. Nevertheless, he is a solid defender with the credentials to make it at a team like Manchester United. Whether they sign him ahead of others is a question the window will answer in a few weeks.

They are also keen on OGC Nice’s Jean-Clair Todibo and Everton’s Jarrad Branthwaite. But no approaches have been made so far for either. Overall, Manchester United would need a sufficient replacement for Maguire to strengthen their squad and add the required quality at the back.
