Liverpool and West Ham United have been linked with a move for Torino defender Perr Schuurs, who will cost €40 million.

A report from Calciomercato claims that Liverpool and West Ham United will have to pay a fee of around €40 million in order to sign Dutch defender Perr Schuurs from Serie A club Torino this summer.

The 23-year-old joined Torino last summer, and he managed to make an immediate impact. He has been a key player for the Serie A club over the past year. So it is no surprise that they are looking to demand the premium for him.

The Dutchman is highly rated around Europe, and he could develop into a top-class ball-playing defender for Liverpool and West Ham United if they manage to sign him. The Reds need to bring in defensive reinforcements this summer and have already failed with a bid to sign Schuurs.

Players like Joe Gomez and Joel Matip were quite underwhelming last season. Meanwhile, Ibrahima Konate and Virgil van Dijk are the only reliable defenders at the club right now. So Jurgen Klopp needs to bring in more quality at the back.

The opportunity to reunite with his compatriot at the club level could be a tempting proposition for the 23-year-old defender. And it remains to be seen whether van Dijk and Cody Gakpo can influence the decision-making of the talented young defender.

Both Liverpool and West Ham certainly have the financial resources to pay the reported €40 million asking price, and it remains to be seen how the situation develops. Meanwhile, West Ham were quite vulnerable defensively last season and David Moyes needs to find a quality partner for Nayef Aguerd.

The Dutch defender could form a quality partnership with the Moroccan international next season. The opportunity to showcase his qualities in the Premier League will be an exciting option for the player, and he will hope that the clubs can sort out an agreement soon.

West Ham will be playing in the UEFA Europa League next season and they need a better defensive unit to cope in the European competition. Someone like Schuurs will certainly help them tighten up at the back. Meanwhile, Liverpool had a disappointing 2022/23 campaign, and they will look to bounce back strongly and compete for the league title once again.

It will be interesting to see which of the two English clubs manage to agree on a deal with Torino in the coming weeks. Although the €40 million asking price might seem steep right now, the 23-year-old has the potential to justify the investment in the coming seasons.
