West Ham United are all set to complete the signing of James Ward-Prowse from Southampton in the coming days.

According to Fabrizio Romano, West Ham United are keen on having James Ward-Prowse in their ranks before the end of the transfer window. And, they have finally managed to reach an agreement with Southampton over a £30 million deal for his services.

Ward-Prowse’s future has been uncertain ever since Southampton got relegated to the Championship. The Saints were far from their best, and they struggled throughout. Despite all the efforts from their skipper, they failed to survive in the English top flight.

The 28-year-old midfielder has been a part of Southampton since his childhood days. He has come up the ranks at the club and has established himself as a regular starter. The England international has featured in over 400 matches for the Saints and has contributed towards 109 goals.

He still has three years left on his deal with the Saints. And in normal circumstances, he would not have left the club. However, with Southampton no longer in the top flight, Ward-Prowse has been open to a move elsewhere, with the club having no intentions of standing in his way, especially as he chases the free-kick record in the Premier League.

West Ham have been interested in the England international for a while now. The Hammers sold Declan Rice to Arsenal. And while the move gave them huge financial gain, it has weakened their midfield, and they have been looking to fill the void by signing multiple midfielders.

Ward-Prowse has been on their radar for a while now. But they failed to reach an agreement with the Championship club on multiple occasions. However, they never lost hope and kept making moves to land him at the club.

Finally, the Hammers have reached an agreement with the Saints for his services. Both clubs have agreed to a deal worth £30 million. West Ham have a verbal agreement in place with the player over personal terms and now, all documents will checked before a medical is scheduled for this week.

Ward-Prowse’s arrival will not just bolster their midfield but will also add a lot of quality to their set-pieces. The 27-year-old is only second on the list for most direct free-kicks in the history of the Premier League, and a move to the Hammers will give him an opportunity to go past the legendary David Beckham.
