Real Madrid will reportedly look to sign 23-year-old English international Reece James from Chelsea in the 2024 summer transfer window.

According to a report by Spanish outlet Fichajes, Reece James is the subject of interest from Real Madrid. But Los Blancos will not launch the offensive for the 23-year-old in the ongoing transfer window. Instead, they will look to secure the services of the Chelsea Academy graduate in the 2024 summer.

Reece James is among the best players to have emanated from Chelsea’s fabled youth division. The English international, along with Mason Mount and Tammy Abraham, has played his part in ending the culture of homegrown players constantly embarking on loan spells. And he has outlasted his compatriots.

The 23-year-old has risen in stature so much that he is now Chelsea’s vice-captain heading into the 2023/24 season. James has turned out nearly 150 times for the West London club, chipping in with 11 goals and 20 assists. And his progress has captured the attention of several high-profile clubs, including Real Madrid.

The Merengues hold a long-standing interest in the Chelsea Academy graduate. And widespread reports this year have suggested that Real Madrid will happily break the bank to sign him. But the Blues have held on to James and will unlikely entertain offers for him anytime soon. Meanwhile, Real Madrid’s interest in the Chelsea defender is understandable.

Dani Carvajal is on the wrong side of 30 and has shown signs of age catching up with him. In addition, a few injuries in the last few seasons have hampered his performance levels. Meanwhile, Lucas Vazquez is not as reliable as a backup right-back as he was two seasons ago. So it behoves Real Madrid to invest in a right-back.

The report claims that Real Madrid will look to sign James in the 2024 summer transfer window. And it seems the Merengues are done with their transfer business for the 2023/24 season. But Chelsea might not entertain an offer next year, either.

That said, recent reports have claimed that James is open to joining Real Madrid. And if the 23-year-old academy graduate pushes for a move, a deal might materialise. So it will be interesting to see if the English international leaves Chelsea to complete a transfer to Real Madrid.
