Galatasaray recently approached Arsenal over the possibility of signing 31-year-old Champions League winner Jorginho.
According to a report by Turkish outlet TRT Spor, Jorginho is the subject of interest from Galatasaray. And the Cimbom recently submitted an enquiry for the 31-year-old UEFA Champions League winner. Meanwhile, the former Chelsea midfielder is ready to leave Arsenal in the ongoing transfer window.
Jorginho has enjoyed a fruitful career thus far despite not being highly rated for much of his playing days. The Brazil-born Italian international rose to prominence at Hellas Verona after graduating from the club’s academy. But his stock skyrocketed during a four-year stint at Napoli, where Maurizio Sarri brought the best out of him.
The 31-year-old followed Sarri to Chelsea in July 2018 but did not hit the ground running. He came in for a lot of criticism during his debut season but rose to the occasion in his second campaign, ironically after Sarri departed from Chelsea. And Jorginho’s performances were instrumental in Chelsea winning the UEFA Champions League in 2021.
The experienced midfielder also became Chelsea’s vice-captain in his second season. But Jorginho’s stint at Stamford Bridge ended this year in January amid the West London club’s heavy spending. And he moved across London to join Arsenal in the winter transfer window.
The move raised many eyebrows, considering he did not fit Arsenal’s modus operandi in the market. But the 31-year-old Champions League winner, who has made 16 appearances thus far for Arsenal, made his mark in Thomas Partey’s absence. However, Jorginho’s short stay at Arsenal might end this summer, with Galatasaray interested in him.
The Turkish giants have been active in the market this summer, signing eight players. And recent reports have linked Galatasaray with many midfielders, including Fred and Tanguy Ndombele. Jorginho’s name has now emerged on Galatasaray’s radar. And they have already approached Arsenal to enquire about the Italian international’s availability.
The report claims that Jorginho is ready to leave Arsenal in the ongoing transfer window. And his stance is hardly surprising, considering the Gunners have signed Declan Rice. Meanwhile, Arsenal might not stand in the player’s way either, provided they get their required price. And it will be interesting to see if the 31-year-old Champions League winner moves to Galatasaray.
