Barcelona edge closer to sealing Joao Cancelo deal

Barcelona and Manchester City are edging closer to sealing an agreement over a deal for 29-year-old Premier League winner Joao Cancelo.

According to reputed Italian journalist Rudy Galetti, Joao Cancelo is the subject of interest from Barcelona. And the Catalan giants are close to securing the services of the 29-year-old Premier League winner. Meanwhile, the Manchester City defender has already accepted the personal terms to join Barcelona.

Joao Cancelo has represented some of the most well-known clubs in the world during his career. The Portuguese international has turned out for Valencia, Inter Milan, Juventus, Manchester City, and Bayern Munich. And he has been excellent for the most part during his spell with the Premier League champions.

The 29-year-old has made over 150 appearances for Manchester City, chipping in with nine goals and 22 assists. But Cancelo’s Manchester City future is uncertain after a few run-ins with Pep Guardiola earlier this year. And the situation has captured the attention of several high-profile clubs, including Barcelona.

Joan Laporta revealed a few months ago that Barcelona would sign a new right-back this summer. But the Catalan giants are yet to address the problem area, although they have identified several options to bolster the position. However, with a new right-back yet to arrive, Jules Kounde remains the first-choice right-back for Barcelona.

With the Frenchman eager to return to the heart of the defence, the reigning La Liga champions need a top-class right-back. Joao Cancelo has thus emerged as the priority target for Barcelona for the summer transfer window. And recent reports have claimed that the Catalan giants have been stepping up their efforts to secure his services.

Meanwhile, personal terms will not be an issue for Barcelona, with the 29-year-old keen on joining them. Rudy Galetti has now revealed that talks between Manchester City and Barcelona are progressing well. The Premier League champions are keen on offloading the Portuguese international.

So a summer agreement should see the light of day. With the 29-year-old ready to move to Barcelona, a consensus on the transfer fee is the final obstacle. And it will be interesting to see if the Blaugrana can land the Manchester City defender this summer.
