Barcelona stepping up interest in Joao Cancelo

Barcelona will likely present a bid to sign Joao Cancelo, a target for Arsenal, from Manchester City in the coming days.

According to a report by 90min, Barcelona and Arsenal are reportedly keen on signing Joao Cancelo from Manchester City. And the Catalan giants are exploring a summer move for the 29-year-old full-back. Meanwhile, a bid to sign the player might be on the cards in the coming days.

There are only a few more days left for the 2023/24 season to begin. But Joao Cancelo still does not know where he will ply his trade in the upcoming season. However, he has shown some promising signs at Manchester City during the pre-season campaign. And Pep Guardiola might keep the Portuguese international in his squad next term.

The 29-year-old has turned out x times thus far for Manchester City, chipping in with x goals and x assists. But Cancelo’s future has been uncertain for several weeks, especially following his loan exit in January. And such a situation has captured the attention of several high-profile clubs, including Barcelona and Arsenal.

Recent reports have claimed that the former Juventus defender is a priority target for Barcelona this summer. But securing Cancelo’s services might be a tall order for the Blaugrana, as he will not come cheap. And updates from last month pointed to Manchester City demanding €50 million to part ways with him.

Nonetheless, the 29-year-ol remains a top target for Barcelona. And the report by 90min has claimed that the Catalan giants are stepping up their efforts to sign him. And Barcelona will soon present an offer to secure his services. But Arsenal might have something to say about the Catalan club’s approach.

However, Arsenal’s continued interest in the Manchester City full-back is surprising. With Jurrien Timber arriving at the Emirates, Mikel Arteta does not need a new left-back or a right-back. So it is unclear how Cancelo might fit into the scheme of things at Arsenal.
