West Ham United are looking at Spezia forward M’Bala Nzola as a replacement for Gianluca Scamacca, who wants an Italy return.

According to Calciomercato, West Ham United are exploring whether they can sign M’Bala Nzola from Spezia this summer. The relegated Italian side are open to a transfer, but the Hammers face competition from Serie A clubs, especially Fiorentina.

West Ham United are having a strange summer that could keep the fans frustrated ahead of the season opener. The Hammers are the only side in the Premier League that are yet to make a signing in this window, and the concerns continue to grow in the background.

They were to make significant signings to strengthen their squad following the record sale of Declan Rice to Arsenal. Many of their targets have refused in some cases, while the Hammers have refused to pay more than necessary to sign other names.

A recent example was with James Ward-Prowse. The Hammers made a £30 million take-it or leave-it offer and threatened to withdraw from negotiations with Southampton. Stars like Conor Gallagher have refused a transfer, while Ajax recently hijacked a move for promising Manchester City winger Carlos Borges.

They are scrambling in the striker’s market to find a proper replacement for potential outgoing Gianlucas Scamacca. The tall forward wants a return to Italy as he remains unsettled in London following his move to West Ham last season.

David Moyes wants a good replacement before sanctioning a move, with Inter Milan the closet suitor. Spezia’s M’Bala Nzola has emerged as a target for the Hammers, with the 26-year-old attacker open to a new challenge.

Spezia are also ready to sell, but at their price, and may have already rejected offers from several Serie A sides. As things stand, Fiorentina are the favourites to sign the 26-year-old attacker, with West Ham also pondering a surprise move.

Whether the fans will take in the Spezia forward remains the question considering their most recent import from Italy failed miserably. West Ham were also linked with Hugo Ekitike from PSG, and Folarin Balogun remains a target.

Inter Milan stopped talks with Arsenal for Balogun, their top priority. Since then, they have switched their attention towards Scamacca, which led the Hammers to chase Nzola. The 26-year-old attacker was recently kept out of Spezia’s friendly clash, further fueling speculation.

West Ham may have tried something else in this market than going for Nzola, who remains a forward of unknown quantity. The fans could blame the club for their abysmal decisions if he fails here. They must get their act together and make significant signings before the season begins.
