Tottenham have reached an agreement in principle with VfL Wolfsburg over a £30 million deal for Micky van de Ven.
According to Football Insider, Tottenham Hotspur have experienced a breakthrough in talks with VfL Wolfsburg for star defender Micky van de Ven with an agreement in principle over a £30 million deal now complete.
The North London side are rebuilding under new manager Ange Postecoglou and are keen to sign a central defender or two before the summer window slams shut. It now appears they have made huge headway in the race to land van de Ven.
The Dutchman has been one of Wolfsburg’s top players and is now ready to take the next step in his career. Tottenham have reached an agreement worth £30 million and will hopefully have the deal wrapped up quick as the 2023/24 season nears kickoff.
Van de Ven, for his part, is open to a transfer to north London with personal terms already agreed upon. Now that a deal has been struck in principle, it could be a question of when and not if the transfer will take place.
The Dutchman will pen a long term deal at N17 and will form the crux of the defensive rebuild under Postecoglou. He will also complement Cristian Romero, who is more of a physical presence rather than a technical maestro.
One major asset van de Ven will bring to the table is his pace. This will add a new dimension to the Tottenham backline and provide Postecoglou with the ammo to implement his attacking tactics.
Tottenham need more than one central defender this summer and are eyeing Bayer Leverkusen’s Edmond Tapsoba and Torino’s Perr Schuurs. Once the van de Ven deal goes through, it remains to be seen if the Lilywhites will push ahead on either front to make additional reinforcements.
Van de Ven was also a target for Liverpool earlier in the window and was said to be “open” to an Anfield move to reunite with his former sporting director Jorge Schmadtke. Tottenham landing him in a £30 million deal is nothing short of a coup for Daniel Levy and co.
