Liverpool are leading the race to sign 22-year-old Dutch centre-back Micky van de Ven from Bundesliga club VfL Wolfsburg.

According to Christian Falk via Caught Offside, Liverpool are keen on acquiring the services of Micky van de Ven. The 22-year-old centre-back has made quite a name for himself over the past few seasons. And he is on the radar of multiple top clubs from across Europe, including Bayern Munich.

Micky van de Ven has gone from strength to strength over the past few seasons. As far as the 2022/23 season is concerned, the 22-year-old featured in 36 matches for Bundesliga club Wolfsburg and had three goal contributions. He was a rock in the heart of the defence and had hardly put a foot wrong.

His performances resulted in interest from Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich and Liverpool. The German giants are always on the look for talented young players who can strengthen their squad and they believe the Dutch defender could be a great addition for the present as well as the future.

But, the Bundesliga giants are behind Liverpool in the race for the 22-year-old’s services. The Reds have a slight advantage because of their new sporting director Jorg Schmadtke. He was in charge of transfers at Wolfsburg back in the day and was responsible to bring Van de Ven to the German club.

Schmadtke helped Wolfsburg acquire the Dutch centre-back from FC Volendam for a fee of just €3.5 million back in 2021. With Schmadtke currently working at Liverpool, he could help them strike a deal with the Bundesliga club for the services of the 22-year-old.

The Merseyside club’s priority at this point in time is to strengthen their midfield. But they are also looking to bolster their defence. Jurgen Klopp is keen on signing someone who can strengthen his defensive rotation and provide cover in case of an injury or suspension to Virgil van Dijk or Ibrahima Konate. And, he believes the 22-year-old can help his cause.

While his contract with the club runs until the summer of 2027, the Dutch defender could be on the move ahead of next season. His current market value is €18 million. And given the financial strength of Liverpool, they can prise him away from the German club.
