Chelsea are reportedly formulating a player plus cash offer to tempt Kylian Mbappe, having held talks with PSG.

According to the Daily Record, Chelsea could plot a player plus cash offer to tempt PSG into selling Kylian Mbappe. The 24-year-old World Cup star has stirred up a storm in Paris, even refusing a highly lucrative deal from Saudi Arabian side Al Hilal last week.

The Kylian Mbappe saga has no end in sight as rumour after rumours continues to circulate in the media. The 24-year-old World Cup star stirred up controversy since sending a letter to PSG chief Nasser Al Khelaifi about his intentions to not extend his contract into the third year.

In 2022, Mbappe signed a two-year deal with the option of a third, making him one of the world’s highest-paid footballers. Since confirming he will not sign on for a third year, PSG put him up for sale as they have no intention of letting the Frenchman leave on a free transfer.

PSG have long suspected Mbappe had agreed on terms with Real Madrid in a secret arrangement, which will see the 24-year-old join the Spanish giants on a free transfer in 2024. Hence, they are keen to offload him now, and the striker has come under immense pressure, especially after recent events.

PSG omitted Mbappe from their tour of the far east, thus fueling speculation about a sale. Interestingly, Saudi side Al Hilal presented an irresistible offer worth €300 million to PSG, which the French side accepted.

Moreover, the offer would reportedly land Mbappe a massive €700 million contract for only a year, after which he would be free to join Real Madrid next season. The hair-raising offer may have turned any footballer’s head towards signing such an agreement, but not Mbappe’s.

He refused to even entertain negotiations with the Saudi delegation, which jeopardised the deal. The big question for PSG is what they do with the forward. Some absolutely nonsensical rumours have been circulating, especially in the English media, including linking the 24-year-old to a move to Tottenham in exchange for Harry Kane.

Chelsea have also been interested in the forward, but any move will have massive financial repercussions for the Blues. Todd Boehly reportedly met Al Khelaifi to discuss the possibility of signing Mbappe, but what transpired in those talks remains unknown.

This report insists that Chelsea could make a player-plus-cash offer to tempt Mbappe into joining the London side. The story fails to mention who those players are and puts a massive question mark over this rumour.

In truth, if it was a matter of money and joining Real Madrid in 2024, Mbappe would have accepted those terms put forward by the Saudis. However, his plans to join the La Liga side remain intact, but on his terms and not by those put forward by PSG in an attempt to sell him.

Hence, it’s difficult for Chelsea or any other Premier League side to sign Mbappe. Even if they attempted, the financial impact may become unsustainable in the current climate. Moreover, why would the 24-year-old risk his best chance to join Real Madrid for a move to the Premier League now when the ball is firmly in his court?
