Axel Disasi will sign a long-term, five-year contract with Chelsea as he edges closer to completing a €45 million move from AS Monaco.

Fabrizio Romano has confirmed Axel Disasi will sign a long-term deal at Chelsea once he completes his €45 million move from AS Monaco. The 25-year-old defender will pen a five-year deal with the option of a sixth season, which works out within the club’s strategy since last summer.

Chelsea finished their pre-season tour of the US by winning the Premier League Summer Series after beating Fulham in the tournament’s final game. With that triumph, Mauricio Pochettino will shift his focus towards the opening of the Premier League season in two weeks.

Despite the squad showing promise with new names shining through, Pochettino would still want new players to strengthen. Chelsea have been chasing Moises Caicedo for their midfield position. But Brighton have rejected multiple offers so far, which could lead to the midfielder forcing a move.

While that area remains the priority, Chelsea barely had any plans to strengthen their central defence barring unexpected departures, particularly that of Lewi Colwill. However, the serious knee injury sustained by Wesley Fofana ruled the Frenchman out for most of the upcoming season, thus forcing the Blues into the market.

Having held interest in a few targets, Chelsea swiftly agreed to a €45 million fee with AS Monaco for defender Axel Disasi. The imposing centre-back had been on their list of potential targets, with other teams also keen on the Frenchman.

Chelsea paid what Monaco had demanded for Disasi amid interest from Manchester United and Newcastle United. The Blues have offered the 25-year-old a long-term contract of five years with the option of a sixth season.

Disasi will sign the deal as he nears a move to Stamford Bridge, which could get finalised once the team returns to England. The contract size aligns with Chelsea’s recent policy of long-term player agreements.

Fabrizio Romano confirmed the news and stated the pending interest from Machester United. He claimed the Red Devils or Newcastle never made any bids for the 25-year-old. They had held talks with Disasi earlier in the window, but Erik ten Hag prioritised a new goalkeeper, midfielder and striker.

As for Disasi, Chelsea have reportedly booked medicals for next week, which indicates they might formally announce the signing sometime in the coming days. Disasi will be a solid addition ahead of the new season. His presence will allow Chelsea to consider an exit for Trevoh Chalobah, leaving the Frenchman and veteran Thiago Silva as the options for the right side of the central defence.
