Axel Disasi will likely leave AS Monaco this summer, with Manchester United keen on signing the 25-year-old centre-back.

According to Foot Mercato chief editor Sebastien Denis, Axel Disasi has become the top target for Manchester United. The Red Devils wanted to prioritise a move for Kim Min-jae. But with the Napoli defender closing in on joining Bayern Munich, they have set their sights on the 25-year-old AS Monaco defender.

Axel Disasi took some time to rise to prominence as he spent his formative years with unheralded clubs. He first made a name for himself during his four-year spell with Stade Reims. But the French international has not looked back since joining AS Monaco in August 2020. And he has also broken into his national team.

The 25-year-old was a part of the squad that reached the 2022 FIFA World Cup final. Meanwhile, Disasi has turned out 129 times thus far for AS Monaco, chipping in with 12 goals and four assists. And the player’s progress has not gone unnoticed, with several high-profile clubs, including Manchester United, interested.

Reports in April suggested the Frenchman was the priority target for Manchester United. But they turned their attention to Kim Min-jae instead, pursuing him for several weeks. However, Manchester United will unlikely land the Napoli defender, as he is closing in on joining Bayern Munich.

Kim’s impending move to Bayern Munich has forced Manchester United to go back to Disasi. And the 25-year-old defender is reportedly keen on joining the Premier League club this summer. The Red Devils are now ramping up their efforts to bring the French international to Old Trafford ahead of the 2023/24 season.

Discussions over a possible summer move are underway. And Sebastien Denis has claimed that Disasi will likely leave AS Monaco in the summer transfer window. Meanwhile, Manchester United’s eagerness to sign a centre-back is understandable, considering Harry Maguire faces an uncertain future at Old Trafford.

The Manchester United captain has fallen down the pecking order. And a summer departure from Old Trafford is on the cards. So replacing Maguire with a younger, better-suited option makes sense. And it will be interesting to see if the 25-year-old defender joins Manchester United this summer.
