Barcelona will not pursue Kylian Mbappe, a target for Real Madrid, anytime soon, with Paris Saint-Germain keen on selling him.

According to a report by Spanish outlet SPORT, Kylian Mbappe is not the subject of interest from Barcelona. The Catalan giants believe Paris Saint-Germain might be using their name to put pressure on Real Madrid. And the Merengues are also keen on securing the services of the French international.

Kylian Mbappe is arguably the best player in the world, going from strength to strength since his breakthrough at the club level. The Frenchman rose to prominence during his stint with AS Monaco before joining Paris Saint-Germain half a dozen years ago. And he has been a pivotal figure for his club and country for a long time.

The 24-year-old was excellent in the 2022/23 season, amassing 41 goals and ten assists in 43 appearances. But Mbappe’s PSG future is non-existent since his revelation that he does not intend to sign a new contract with them. And with the player in the final year of his contract, the Ligue 1 champions are keen on cashing in on him this summer.

The French heavyweights have tried to put more pressure on the 2018 FIFA World Cup winner by leaving him out of their pre-season squad for the Asian tour. But he has been adamant that he wants to honour his PSG contract. Meanwhile, Mbappe’s situation has captured the attention of several clubs. And widespread reports have linked him with Real Madrid and Barcelona.

Mbappe’s name in the transfer market has been synonymous with Real Madrid. The Merengues have been tailing the French international for a long time, albeit unsuccessfully. And despite widespread speculation surrounding the player’s future, Real Madrid will prefer to sign him next summer.

As for Barcelona, reports this week have suggested he is a target for the Blaugrana. And Mbappe’s versatility means he can be a solid long-term solution for the Barcelona attack. But the Catalan giants are not interested in pursuing a deal for the 24-year-old. And they believe PSG might be using their name to generate interest from Real Madrid over a move this summer. Meanwhile, recent reports have linked him with a shocking move to Al-Hilal.

PSG will look to part ways with the French international in the ongoing transfer window. But Mbappe’s contract situation and preference for a move to Real Madrid means the Ligue 1 champions do not have much bargaining power, even if they bench him throughout the 2023/24 season. It will be interesting to see how the story surrounding the World Cup winner evolves.
