Barcelona will reportedly look to sign 17-year-old Brazilian wonderkid Matheus Goncalves, a target for Chelsea, from Flamengo.

According to a report by Spanish outlet Fichajes, Matheus Goncalves is the subject of interest from Barcelona. And the Catalan giants have stepped up their efforts to secure the services of the 17-year-old. The Flamengo wonderkid is also a target for Chelsea over a move in the ongoing transfer window.

Matheus Goncalves has spent his formative years thus far in his homeland. The Brazilian prodigy has been with Flamengo for half a decade and has come leaps and bounds at the club. And after rising through the ranks in the Scarlet-Black’s youth division, he made his first-team debut last season.

Goncalves has risen in stature this season, turning out 15 times across all competitions for Flamengo. The 17-year-old wonderkid has also chipped in with three goals, with his progress capturing the attention of several high-profile clubs. And Barcelona and Chelsea are two of his prospective suitors.

Recent reports have linked the Brazilian whizkid with several Premier League clubs and Real Madrid. But according to the report by Fichajes, Barcelona, Chelsea, and Juventus are seemingly the most serious suitors for the teenage sensation this summer.

Barcelona and Chelsea are renowned for constantly foraying into the market for the most prodigious young prospects. Such an outlook has helped both clubs secure the services of many highly-rated prodigies. And they have already signed such youngsters in the ongoing transfer window.

While Mikayil Faye has bolstered Barcelona’s youth division, Alex Matos and Diego Moreira are among the young prospects to arrive at Chelsea. So it is hardly surprising that Barcelona and Chelsea are interested in signing Matheus Goncalves from Flamengo in the ongoing transfer window. And the Catalan giants, in particular, are stepping up their efforts to secure his services this summer.

Apart from Barcelona and Chelsea, the 17-year-old Brazilian wonderkid is also a target for Juventus. But Goncalves considers joining Barcelona as a golden opportunity he cannot overlook. That said, with the Barcelona first-team squad loaded with wide attackers, his pathway to the senior side might not be clear. Nonetheless, it will be interesting to see if the Blaugrana can beat Chelsea to his signature.
