Andre Onana has completed his move to Manchester United, with the Red Devils paying €55 million to Inter Milan for the deal.

Manchester United have made an official statement to confirm that they have secured the services of Andre Onana. The Cameroonian goalkeeper has signed a five-year contract at Old Trafford. And the Red Devils have reportedly shelled out €55 million to land him from Inter Milan.

Andre Onana has had a fascinating journey in his professional career thus far. The 27-year-old spent his early formative years in his homeland before graduating from Barcelona’s famed La Masia division. But he rose to prominence during his seven-and-a-half-year stint with Ajax.

Onana’s spell with Ajax ended last summer as he joined Inter Milan in a Bosman move. And he enjoyed a solid 2022/23 campaign, helping the Nerazzurri clinch a top-four finish in Serie A while reaching the UEFA Champions League final. But the Cameroonian goalkeeper’s stint in Italy has ended after just one year, as he has joined Manchester United. And he has expressed his delight at moving to Old Trafford.

Onana said, “To join Manchester United is an incredible honour and I have worked hard all my life to get to this moment, overcoming many obstacles along the way. Walking out at Old Trafford to defend our goal and contribute to the team will be another amazing experience. This is the start of a new journey for me, with new teammates, and new ambitions to fight for.”

“Manchester United has a long history of incredible goalkeepers, and I will now give everything to create my own legacy in the coming years. I am excited by the opportunity to work again with Erik ten Hag, and I can’t wait to play my part in the success I know he is determined to deliver at this great football club.”

Onana was on Manchester United’s radar for a long time. And as July rolled in, the Red Devils were hell-bent on securing his services. Talks ramped up last week, and the two parties came close to sealing the deal. And Inter Milan finally accepted a bid from Manchester United a few days ago.

A report by BBC has confirmed the fee. And Manchester United will pay €55 million to Inter Milan to secure Onana’s services. The 27-year-old UCL finalist is now jetting into the USA to join his new teammates on the pre-season tour. And after David de Gea’s bizarre departure, it will be interesting to see if Onana becomes an upgrade on the Spaniard.
