Newcastle United are keen on having 25-year-old AS Monaco defender Axel Disasi in their ranks but will have to battle it out with Manchester United.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Newcastle United want to acquire the services of Axel Disasi ahead of next season. The Magpies are keen on bolstering their defence in the ongoing summer transfer window and have their eyes set on 25-year-old AS Monaco centre-back. And they have already contacted the defender’s entourage, with Manchester United also keen.

Newcastle United have done wonders under Eddie Howe. They managed to finish inside the top four last season and are all set to compete in the UEFA Champions League. Howe is now keen on reinforcing his squad to ensure they are competitive enough in both UCL as well as the Premier League.

His priority was to strengthen the midfield as well as the defence. As far as the centre of the park is concerned, they have already signed Sandro Tonali from AC Milan in a big money move. Now, the Magpies are looking for defensive reinforcement and believe Disasi is someone who can help their cause.

The 25-year-old has been at Monaco since the summer of 2020, and he has gone from strength to strength over the years. Howe is convinced about the abilities of the player and wants him at the club before the start of next season.

Newcastle United are exploring a possible deal for the French defender, and they have already established contacts with the player’s side this week. While the talks go on with the 25-year-old’s camp, they are expected to get in contact with the club soon. However, Newcastle United are not alone in the race. Even Manchester United are keen on signing him.

Erik ten Hag is looking for defensive reinforcement. He wants to sign someone who can strengthen his squad’s depth and start when needed. Disasi seems to be the perfect fit, and ten Hag has approved a possible move for the 25-year-old. Even the Red Devils are exploring a deal for the AS Monaco defender, and they have been in talks with the player’s entourage for weeks.

However, they are yet to approach the club. Both Manchester United and Newcastle United are in a similar position in the pursuit of the French defender. And, it is going to be interesting to see who comes out on top in the pursuit of the AS Monaco centre-back.
