Manchester United are in desperate need of funds, and they are keen on offloading England international Harry Maguire.

According to The Sun, Manchester United want to offload Harry Maguire as soon as possible. The Red Devils had spent a fortune on acquiring his services. But things have not gone according to plan and they are ready to sell him in the ongoing summer transfer window.

Maguire made a name for himself while playing for Leicester City. He had an exceptional 2018/19 season for the Foxes. The England international hardly put a foot wrong during that campaign, and he was exceptional throughout. On the back of his heroics, Manchester United went all out and acquire his services for a whopping £80 million.

The Red Devils made him the most expensive defender in the history of football. While initially, it did look like a sensible transfer, a few years down the line, it looks like a blunder. Maguire might still be the club captain but he is no longer an asset, the 30-year-old is an out-and-out liability because of his huge wages.

Erik ten Hag no longer considers him a part of his plan. While the Dutch manager has no problems having him in his squad, Maguire is no longer a guaranteed starter. The England international might have featured in 31 matches last season but he was on the pitch for just over 1,500 minutes.

Manchester United have a limited purse to work with during the ongoing summer window. They are restricted due to Finacial Fair Play regulations, and their takeover might not be completed before the start of the season.

Ten Hag is keen on signing a midfielder, a striker as well as a goalkeeper. With Mason Mount all set to join the club for £55 million, the Red Devils only have £65 million more to work with as per the report. And, they still have a goalkeeper and a striker to sign.

As a result, they are looking to make some cash by selling players who are not a part of Ten Hag’s plan. With Maguire way down the pecking order, he is one of the first names they are ready to get rid of.

While the 30-year-old might not raise a fee close to what they had spent on him, his departure will surely lighten their wage bill. However, finding a buyer might not be that easy a task given his lofty wages.
