Newcastle United recently approached 23-year-old English attacker, Reiss Nelson, with Arsenal looking to tie him to a new deal.

According to a report by Football Transfers, Reiss Nelson is the subject of interest from Newcastle United over a possible move in the summer transfer window. And the Magpies have already made an enquiry to the 23-year-old attacker. But the youngster will likely sign a new contract with Arsenal.

Reiss Nelson was once among the most highly-rated young prospects in England. But fitness issues stunted his growth in his later formative years. And season-long loan stints with TSG Hoffenheim and Feyenoord produced mixed results. However, he made some progress in the recently-concluded campaign at Arsenal.

The 23-year-old did not feature regularly, managing less than 600 minutes of game time. But the English winger had a solid tally of three goals and three assists in 18 outings, needing less than 100 minutes to contribute to a strike. However, Nelson’s contract with Arsenal has expired, although he will likely sign a new deal.

Recent reports have claimed that Nelson has verbally agreed to a new four-year contract with Arsenal. But the Gunners are yet to make an official announcement about the new deal. So the player is ripe for the taking for prospective suitors. And Newcastle United will look to secure his services this summer.

Newcastle United bolstered the offensive unit in the January transfer window by signing Anthony Gordon from Everton. But amid uncertainties surrounding the future of Allan Saint-Maximin, the Tyneside club can do with a new wide attacker. And Reiss Nelson has emerged as a viable target for Newcastle United.

The Magpies have touched base with the 23-year-old over the possibility of a summer move. But it is unclear if Nelson is ready to snub Arsenal to move to St. James’ Park. And his prospects will unlikely improve at Newcastle United, especially if Saint-Maximin does not leave.

Nonetheless, it will be interesting to see if Nelson holds talks with Newcastle United over a possible Bosman move. For now, it seems likely that Arsenal will tie the 23-year-old attacker to a new long-term contract at the Emirates.
