Chelsea and Liverpool have reportedly held talks with Pini Zahavi over a move for Gabri Veiga, a target for Chelsea and Liverpool.

According to a report by 90min, Chelsea and Liverpool are among the Premier League clubs pushing to sign Gabri Veiga. The two English giants have approached Pini Zahavi over a deal for the Celta Vigo midfielder, a target for Barcelona and Real Madrid. And he has a release clause worth €40 million in his contract.

Gabri Veiga has established himself as one of the best young prospects in his homeland following his breakthrough campaign in senior club-level football. The 21-year-old was instrumental in Celta Vigo evading relegation from La Liga, scoring several crucial goals in the 2022/23 season.

The Spaniard chipped in with 11 goals and four assists in 40 appearances across all competitions. And Veiga’s progress has captured the attention of several high-profile clubs across Europe. Real Madrid and Barcelona have been monitoring him for a long time, while Chelsea and Liverpool have opened talks with him. Meanwhile, the youngster has a release clause worth €40 million.

Recent reports have claimed that the Spanish under-21 international is a top target for Chelsea. And with Mason Mount on the verge of joining Manchester United, Veiga can be a viable option to replace the Englishman. As for Liverpool, the Reds have recently sealed the deal for their second midfield signing.

But while Dominik Szoboszlai is closing in on joining Liverpool, the Merseyside club can do with another midfield signing. The Celta Vigo midfielder is thus a viable target for Liverpool. But they face stiff competition from Barcelona and Real Madrid for the 21-year-old. However, it is unlikely that Barcelona can afford to pay €40 million to land him.

On the other hand, the Real Madrid squad has no room for a midfielder after Dani Ceballos signed a new contract. So a move in the 2024 summer transfer window will suit Los Blancos if Luka Modric and Toni Kroos call it a day by then. But therein lies the problem, as Chelsea and Liverpool can tempt the Spaniard this summer.

In addition, the two Premier League clubs are in a healthy-enough financial condition to pay €40 million to secure Veiga’s services. But Chelsea and Liverpool also face competition from Newcastle United and Manchester City, with both clubs also holding talks with Pini Zahavi. So the race to sign the Spanish midfielder is heating up. And it will be interesting to see where he plies his trade next season.
