Alvaro Odriozola is reportedly close to leaving Real Madrid to rejoin his former club Real Sociedad this summer.
According to a report by Spanish outlet MARCA, Alvaro Odriozola is a step closer to rejoining Real Sociedad. The 27-year-old Real Madrid defender has a two-year contract on his table from his former club. And he will likely ply his trade with the Basque outfit in the 2023/24 season.
Alvaro Odriozola has seen his stock plummet since joining Real Madrid from Real Soceidad in July 2018 in a deal worth €32 million. The Spaniard was one of the best young full-backs in his homeland when he arrived at the Santiago Bernabeu. But he has regressed considerably in the last half a decade instead of making progress in his stuttering career.
The 27-year-old has also embarked on two loan stints during his spell with Real Madrid. But the short stays at Bayern Munich and Fiorentina did not help him much either. And the player managed only 92 minutes of game time across six appearances this past season. Meanwhile, Odriozola’s stint with Real Madrid will likely end in the summer transfer window.
Recent reports have linked the Spanish defender with several high-profile clubs, including Juventus and Chelsea. But the player will likely continue in La Liga after leaving Real Madrid in the summer transfer window. And Odriozola’s next destination might be his former club Real Sociedad.
Reports earlier this month revealed Odriozola’s desire to rejoin Real Sociedad in the summer transfer window. And according to MARCA, he is on the verge of moving back to his former club. But Real Madrid will unlikely recoup anything close to €32 million from the Spaniard’s departure this summer.
In fact, widespread reports have claimed that Real Sociedad will look to re-sign the 27-year-old for free. Meanwhile, La Real’s interest in Odriozola is surprising, considering Imanol Alguacil already has two right-backs in his squad.
