West Ham United are ready to step up their interest in Denis Zakaria as finding a replacement for Declan Rice takes precedence.

According to Calciomercato, West Ham United stepped up their chase of Denis Zakaria and could hold talks with Juventus in the coming period. The Chelsea flop has returned to Italy, but the Bianconeri are keen to sell him for €18-20 million and raise funds for new transfers.

Denis Zakaria seemed like a good option for Chelsea based on his performances for Borussia Monchengladbach and the six months at Juventus. The only bit of surprise came from the Italian giants, who elected to let him leave only half a season after his arrival.

While fans had hoped for Zakaria to add something different to their midfield, the Swiss international barely played last season. He featured only 13 times across all competitions, managing 722 minutes in those games.

Naturally, the Chelsea flop will not remain at Stamford Bridge but is open to exploring a move elsewhere. Juventus are open to selling him for €18-20 million, which they could then use to fund a move for Arsenal target Sergej Milinkovic-Savic.

West Ham United are one of the teams interested in signing Zakaria. The Hammers are looking at many good options for their midfield, especially after they agreed a massive fee with Arsenal for the sale of Declan Rice. Hence, they will have the funds to sign the right player, but who?

Joao Palhinha remains an option, but West Ham fear Fulham’s massive asking price could rule out a move for the Portuguese international. Edson Alvarez was also an option, but the Hammers are no longer in the running. As for Zakaria, they feel there’s a chance to sign the €18-20 million-rated Chelsea flop.

West Ham will open talks with Juventus if they are serious about the Swiss midfielder. He could become an interesting addition and add the physical style that David Moyes wants from his midfielders. They might look to bring the price down from €18-20 million and maximise the opportunity.

Whether West Ham view Zakaria as the ideal replacement for Rice remains the question. But they might look to sign another player in the position. For now, their absolute priority is to bring in a player suited to their style in the middle.
