Chelsea are reportedly ready to make their move for Celta Vigo sensation Gabri Veiga, who will cost £34.6 million.
According to Evening Standard, Chelsea have shifted their focus to La Liga, keeping a keen eye on Celta Vigo star Gabri Veiga. The young Spanish midfielder will cost around £34.6 million, the value of his release clause.
The 21-year-old came through the ranks at Celta, making his first team bow in 2020. He has since made 55 appearances for the club across all competitions, scoring 11 goals and assisting four more.
An attacking midfielder who can also perform a good job in the centre of the pitch, Veiga is swiftly making a name for himself in the Spanish top flight. A solid dribbler who can also have a mean strike at goal, the Spanish star is certainly one to keep an eye out for.
Veiga still needs to work on his passing but has proven himself capable of making some incredible through balls. His tackling is also not up to scratch, largely calling into question his ability to compete in central midfield regions in the Premier League.
While his potential is clear, the youngster is far from the finished product. Working under a manager such as Mauricio Pochettino will certainly aid his development. The Argentine has in the past worked with a plyer of similar traits, Philippe Coutinho at Espanyol. He could work the same magic, this time at Stamford Bridge.
With Chelsea set to lose Mason Mount to Manchester United, there is a vacancy in central midfield that needs to be addressed. Veiga has now emerged as the club’s top target and has a £34.6 million release clause in his contract. With Kai Havertz, Mateo Kovacic and Callum Hudson-Odoi all out, Conor Gallagher could be the next player to call it quits in west London.
This could accelerate the Blues’ pursuit of Veiga. The 21-year-old has also attracted attention from Liverpool. But the Reds are yet to make their move. This gives the Blues a window of opportunity to secure their man. Meeting his release clause will certainly speed up negotiations.
Angelo Gabriel is another talented youngster that Chelsea are after.
