Aston Villa and Newcastle United have reportedly emerged as new suitors to sign Juventus’s Federico Chiesa, who is also on Liverpool’s radar.

According to Gianluca Di Marzio, Aston Villa have had an approach rejected for Newcastle United target Federico Chiesa, despite making an offer worth €60 million to Juventus for the Italian international.

Linked with an exit from the cash-strapped Serie A heavyweights, the 25-year-old forward could embark on a fresh challenge before the 2023/24 season following an underwhelming campaign with Juve. He has been hit hard by injuries in recent times due to which he was unable to showcase his talent over the last two seasons, only scoring twice in 21 Serie A outings for the Old Lady last term.

Juventus are open to selling Chiesa to bolster their financial situation, which will take a hit due to their lack of Champions League football next term. Chiesa’s current deal with Juve is due to expire in 2025. And the Italian club are keen to receive a higher fee for the Italy international this summer rather than be in a weaker negotiating position next year.

As such, Chiesa is not short of suitors, and Liverpool are one of the front-runners to sign the winger this summer. Long-term admirers Liverpool are dubbed one of the leaders to sign the winger this summer and are lining up a €40 million offer. Now, Aston Villa and Newcastle United are reportedly set to rival them for the Euro 2020 winner’s signature this summer.

Newcastle have already raided the Serie A market, with Sandro Tonali in their grasp. The Magpies are close to completing a €70 million move for the 23-year-old Italy international. And it seems Dan Ashworth and his recruitment team are planning to continue their spending spree in Serie A after striking a deal to sign Tonali.

The Magpies are showing interest in Tonali’s teammate Theo Hernandez and Chiesa. Newcastle have taken an aggressive approach to exploiting the weak Italian football market to get some value-for-money deals. Elite-level talent is available for reasonable prices in Italy, as opposed to the inflated Premier League market.

As for Aston Villa, they have already had an audacious €60 million approach for the Juventus winger turned down. The Villans are scouring the market for a new wide man and see Chiesa’s lack of game time at the Old Lady as an opportunity to swoop in.

While Aston Villa did make a remarkable recovery last season to secure UEFA Europa Conference League qualification under Unai Emery’s management, the player would prefer a move to a club with Champions League football and is not keen about the possibility of joining the West Midlands outfit.

Although Cheisa’s output in recent seasons has been nothing to write home about, he excelled in his first year at Juve, recording 15 goals and 11 assists in 46 matches in 2020/21 before starring in Euro 2020. And he will be hoping to return to those levels again in the 2023/24 campaign. It remains to be seen what the future holds for Chiesa. But Juventus seem prepared to cash in on their prized asset due to their financial concerns.
