Joselu has completed his loan move to Real Madrid, who can sign the Spanish international permanently next summer.

Real Madrid have made an official statement to confirm that they have secured the services of Joselu. The Spanish international will spend the 2023/24 season on loan at the Santiago Bernabeu. And Los Blancos will have the option to sign the experienced striker permanently next summer.

Joselu has become a prolific striker in the last few seasons after years of enduring a topsy-turvy ride in his professional career. The 33-year-old has had stints at TSG Hoffenheim, Newcastle United, and Eintracht Frankfurt. But he has come into his own since returning to Spain in July 2019.

The Spaniard first rose to prominence during a three-year stint with Deportivo Alaves before moving to Espanyol last summer. And he was a prolific customer in the final third in the most recent two seasons, even though his teams suffered relegation from La Liga. Joselu’s numbers this past campaign are impressive as he managed 17 goals and four assists in 38 appearances.

But following Espanyol’s relegation, the rumour mill was abuzz with speculation surrounding Joselu’s future. And Real Madrid soon became the front-runner to secure his services this summer. Considering the Merengues have lost Karim Benzema and Mariano Diaz, they needed a prolific striker.

The 33-year-old can be a solid short-term solution for Real Madrid before they turn to Kylian Mbappe. In addition, the Spanish club will greet the arrival of Endrick in the 2024 summer transfer window. As for Joselu, the experienced striker is joining Real Madrid on loan for the 2023/24 season.

Los Blancos will have the option to sign the player permanently next summer. Meanwhile, Joselu will arrive at Real Madrid on the back of a UEFA Nations League-winning triumph with his national side. The former Newcastle United striker played a key role as he scored the match-winner in the semi-finals.

Real Madrid will hope Joselu can fill Benzema’s void in the final third while being the ideal foil for Vinicius Junior and Rodrygo Goes. With widespread reports suggesting the Spaniard will be Los Blancos’ final signing this summer, the 33-year-old will have a huge goalscoring responsibility next season.
