Manchester United are reportedly interested in signing 26-year-old German centre-back Robin Koch from bitter rivals Leeds United.

According to reputed German journalist Florian Plettenberg, Robin Koch is the subject of interest from Manchester United. And the Red Devils have held loose talks to secure the services of the 26-year-old centre-back. The player will likely leave Leeds United in the summer transfer window.

Robin Koch spent his formative years with three German clubs before graduating from the Eintracht Trier Academy. The experienced defender went under the radar for much of his professional career before rising to prominence during his stint with Eintracht Frankfurt. And he joined Leeds United nearly three years ago.

The 26-year-old arrived at Elland Road amid much hype and fanfare surrounding him. But Koch’s performances have been largely unimpressive as he has been error-prone. But the German centre-back has been a regular for Leeds United, turning out 77 times in the last three years. However, his stint with Leeds will likely end this summer following the Whites’ relegation to the Championship.

Despite his error-prone performance, Koch has no shortage of suitors. Recent reports have linked him with Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle United. And he is now the subject of interest from Manchester United, with the Red Devils looking to raid their bitter rivals for the player.

Florian Plettenberg has claimed that while Koch is on Manchester United’s shortlist, the Premier League heavyweights have already held loose talks. And Manchester United’s interest in the player is hardly surprising, considering Harry Maguire faces an uncertain future at Old Trafford.

Maguire’s departure will open up a vacant spot in the defensive unit. And with Phil Jones leaving as a free agent, Manchester United must sign a centre-back this summer. Kim Min-jae is their top target, but Bayern Munich might steal a march on them. So Robin Koch’s name might rise on their shortlist.

But Manchester United should consider the 26-year-old centre-back as a contingency option. Considering the German defender’s error-prone nature, he is a backup option at best for the Red Devils. But with Raphael Varane approaching the twilight of his career, Manchester United should sign a better defender.
